Bissy other name is (kola nut, cola acuminate, guru nut), was brought to Jamaica in the 18th century from West Africa. The Bissy leaf is chewed for digestion and also as a stimulant in Africa. Bissy is used as flavour in beverages, coffee and tea. Also said to be use in the famous drink Coco cola.
Kola nut trees are cultivated in rich, fertile soil and grow in tropical dry climate and sea-coast area. Early stages of research have shown Kola Nut to be a form of cell death for prostate cancer, removing the cancerous progressive cells.
The Nut can be taken to cure and manage poison or relieve intoxication from alcohol, relieve constipation and bloating, decrease menstruation period pain and cramping, by strengthening the fibres in the lung tissue and allows the blood flow freer. One of the most common uses of Bissy is promoting digestion, and a cold remedy such as asthma, whooping cough.
